searching for serendipity [now there a recursive loop!!] and came across reference to the 'long now' project on nicole's blog 9linking serendipitous research to short-time), also earlier to 1000 year planning (see serendipity and, and, and)

see Eno's Long Now lecture  which describes his thinking/contribution to development of Long Now Foundation

This book is a record of every drawing used to build the first prototype of a 10,000 year, all mechanical clock. These drawings were done by several different designers for many different manufacturing processes over the course of three years. For this reason the standards and explanations on the drawings vary from assembly to assembly. We hope that by distributing this document, the record of this Clock will be widely distributed and increase its chances of long term survival. Please take care of your copy.  (from The Clock of The Long Now: mechanical drawings and assemblies 325 page, 7meg  pdf file)

and reading Frodeman (in Foltz and Frodeman 2004)  he speaks of geologic time...
