power/knowledge

  • from Foucault  (see comp and comp-sup)
  • consider the politically-naive comment from Flood (1999: 95, in comp-sup) that "Knowledge-power recognises that what is considered to be valid knowledge may be determined by powerful people."  This is so far removed or such a simplistic rendition (ok, its only one quotation...) of Foucault's point as to be erroneous.
  • "Foucault’s analysis states that power is situated among a cacophony of social practices and situations." (Peterson)

and how about 'just' power...

  • Crossley (2005:ref 213) notes a difference between "who" and "how" theories of power (suggests also Hindess 1982ref in this regard)
